BUILDING TRADES COUNCILS

Illinois has 19 Building & Construction Trades Councils representing union members in the building and construction trades across Illinois. Their members lead projects that generate local jobs and revenue, ensure fair and safe working conditions, and build partnerships in their communities and across local government to ensure labor has a strong voice when it comes to maintaining our infrastructure and building our communities.

NABTU

Illinois Building & Construction Trades Councils are direct charters of North America’s Building Trade Unions (NABTU).  NABTU is dedicated to the stability of employment and economic security of organized construction workers in North America.  Their purpose is to develop workforce opportunities in the building and construction trades, achieve living wages and protect benefit standards for ALL construction workers. NABTU also works in close partnership with a wide array of industries to seek and secure a wide array of public policy challenges that lead to greater economic development across America.

Apprenticeships

North America’s Building Trades Unions’ world-class registered apprenticeship programs provide a debt-free pathway to the middle class. These programs train workers to become highly-skilled, high wage-earning construction workers with the latest technology, an advanced curriculum and in demand skills. These earn-as-you-learn programs pay family-sustaining wages and provide health care coverage and retirement benefits from day one.

NABTU’s construction registered apprenticeship programs supply Illinois with the best American workers to build the roads, bridges, schools, and water and energy systems that keep our workforce safe and competitive.

In every state and almost every Congressional district, registered apprenticeship programs provide years of the best construction training in the business, equipping local workers with top-notch trade skills for fulfilling lifelong middle-class careers in the building trades.
